Why don't people listen?
A friend of mine at work was telling me about her husband's short-lived business venture online. Her husband makes beautiful wood carvings and he does knick-knack shelves, wall hangings, etc. He even does some toys. Well, he put up a website, but the host he went with didn't have anything for shopping cart software.
When she told me about his business venture, I told her to make sure he had a shopping cart set up. I told her this would be essential because it would allow customers to get mulitple items at once, without the need to open any other programs or go off-site. Her husband said he didn't need it, that he would have an email link for people to click on to order something. Well, he got a lot of spam, but he didn't get any orders. He had the site up for two months and had to shut it down because the hosting fees were killing him. He just couldn't justify keeping the business site up and running when he wasn't making anything off the site. I can understand that, but if he'd left it up a bit longer, and taken my suggestion about getting some shopping cart software set up on the hosting plan, he might still have his business.
It's amazing to me how many people won't take the advice of someone who has been there and done that. I wish I'd had something like Ashop on my hosting when I had my business site a couple of years ago. I might still have that site if I had.
