People at work, online, and just about everywhere are going on and on about the Mayan Calendar. It stops on December 12, 2012. So? Well, supposedly, it's because that's the end of the world. Right. A civilization creates a calendar that ends on 12/12/2012, and we're supposed to believe that it's the end of the world that day because it stopped there. Anyone care to remember one small fact? The Mayan Civilization is dead, gone, extinct. Does not exist anymore. So how on earth can anyone say that the world will end on 12/12/2012 when the people who tried to say it would are already gone.
Granted, I realize that they wouldn't have known they'd all be dead and gone by that time, but honestly - we're taking the word of a dead civilization? I don't think so. At least I'm not. If I had the money, I'd even order a custom rubber stamp that proclaims my disbelief of this. It's just the latest craze in the end of the world thing. *sigh*
Oh, and to the dude on the bus who said that "God" wouldn't let the earth be destroyed again - he said HE wouldn't destroy it again. He never said he wouldn't let US do it.
I swear, everyone I know seems to need some sort of repairs done on their house or apartment. I think it's something to do with the cold weather, because it's almost always some sort of plumbing issue. Whether they're needing new kitchen faucets, new pipes, a new toilet, or what, it's all plumbing related. I know my issue is needing a new bathtub drainage system, but the landlord isn't sure how to proceed with that one, since my lines and lines for an apartment upstairs are shared. I've got my friends I can stay with while it's fixed, but the upstairs apartment, not so much. So they're trying to find them somewhere to stay so they can fix everything up.
And if it isn't an issue with the darned plumbing, it's windows. If it's not windows, it's a car that won't start or stay started. Gotta love cold weather. NOT! And now they say that all the ice in the Midwest may be followed by floods. YIKES!
We're kind of snowed in to the house here and running a bit low on supplies. We had a pound of pork sausage in the freezer and quite a few packages of powdered eggs, so I decided to make a scramble. You can use any sausage that takes your fancy, and you can use real eggs instead of powdered eggs.
1 lb bulk sausage
1 pkg powdered eggs or 10 real eggs
dried chopped onion to taste
garlic powder to taste
dried basil to taste
dried oregano to taste
shredded cheddar cheese (if desired)
Brown sausage in skillet, add onion, garlic powder, basil, oregano, and cook thoroughly.
Beat eggs (or mix eggs w/ water if using powdered) and pour into pan.
Scramble eggs until fully cooked.
You can add the cheese to the pan and mix it in or you can add it on top of each individual serving if you have people who don't like cheese. You can also use sliced American cheese if you like.
Other things that are good added into this are: chopped/diced tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, or anything else you think might sound good. It's a very versatile recipe, as you can substitute any flavor of sausage, spices, and other things. Crumbled bacon or diced ham also work well in this.
Ok, so my last post is fudged a bit. There is one bad thing about walking to the bus stop and back. My knee is killing me now. But you know what? My knee pain is a small price to pay for the small bit of independence that taking the bus affords me. I was actually able to go shopping by myself for once. :D
However, my best friend's mom, nothing is worth the pain she has in her shoulder. Being retired and not old enough yet for Medicare, she's kind of stuck however. She doesn't have the money to go to the doctor, and she's afraid he'd order something like a shoulder pain pump. I tried to tell her that they usually only do that after surgery, but she's not listening. LOL
In any case, pain is not something that I or anyone else I know appreciates. :( That's the one stinky thing about getting older. Pain and you start falling apart. :(
One of the things I have to say is, I don't understand why people have such a high disregard for the public transportation (IE bus) system. If they think it's just the low-life homeless people who ride the bus, they're sadly mistaken.
We've had some horrible weather here the past couple of weeks. I live in Iowa, so you can just about imagine - right now we're sitting at almost 20 inches of snow fallen in the past week or so. The car is buried at the moment, but I wanted to go to Wal-Mart to get some jewelry findings for making earrings with. So I grabbed a couple bucks and walked down to the nearest bus stop. Roughly 20 minutes later, I got on the bus, asked for a transfer, and rode down to the transfer point.
I got on my bus that would take me to Wal-Mart and rode to Wal-Mart. An hour later, I got back on the bus, asked for a transfer and went to the transfer point. I got on my bus and rode around until it came back to where it picked me up. Then I walked home.
Not a bad thing - it was about a 3 or 4 hour total outing. But it made me think. By our bus system I can reach: Hobby Lobby, Michaels, the mall, both of our Wal-Marts, K-Mart, Target, both Walgreens, Shop-Ko, and my job. There are also several grocery stores, our PetSmart, and a few other places that I can get to for certain by bus if I am so inclined to go there.
Now, let's think about this. For $49, I can buy a monthly unlimited rides pass. I can go anywhere the bus goes, all month long, anytime the bus is running. A car payment is going to be $200, easily. So I've already saved myself $150 a month. Insurance? At least $120 a month. So there's more money I'm saving. Gas? Upkeep and maintenance? No wonder some people choose to use the bus system instead of having a car! It's more economical!
Now obviously, if I have to go to the store for more than a few items, I'm not going to take the bus. But still. You stop and think about it, the bus truly is not that bad.
I am so tired of being sick. I've been this way for a week. I'm nauseous all the time, throw up at random intervals, and all the doctor can say is "it's a virus, let it run it's course." I'm scheduled to go back to work tomorrow, but who knows what will happen with that, as I was in training and have now missed 4 days of training. I could be fired, or they could be gracious and allow me to switch to a different training class. Of course, this will be up to them, but I'm in deep trouble if it comes down to them firing me, as I will have no income and will have to beg to be allowed to remain in my apartment until I am able to find employment.
In my favor is the fact that I did see a doctor and that I have a note from him stating that I should not be at work until tomorrow. This makes it a legitimate reason for being absent, and should make it more likely that they will work with me to get me into a different training class. Of course, any prayers or energies to that end you would be willing to send my way would be greatly appreciated.
Just a side note here - why is it that the instant you say you haven't been feeling well for a week and you're female and of "child bearing" age, the doctor automatically asks if you could be pregnant? Trust me, I've got friends who've had kids. Pregnancy does not cause fever and chills. *rolls eyes*
In any case, I'm sick of being sick. That is all. :)
Well, I reintroduced myself to the wonders of the Sioux City Transit system tonight. After calling for a cab and discovering that it would be upwards of 3 hours before a cab could retrieve me, I decided to walk the 4 blocks to the bus stop and take the bus. I asked which bus I would need to get on to get off by the McDonald's that is near LaShawn's place. I got on that bus and ended up riding all the way around because the guy at the Transit station forgot to mention that it stopped by the McDonald's on the way back to the station. LOL
I started walking up to my friends house and a lady stopped and asked me how far I had to walk. I told her I was just coming up a couple blocks and she told me she'd give me a ride so I wouldn't have to walk. So she dropped me off in front of LaShawn's place and I thanked her profusely. When I listened to the news a few minutes later, I discovered it was only one degree above zero outside! I'm very grateful to that lady, whoever she was. She didn't ask my name and I never asked for hers.
Being sick has it's perks - no work, but it's horrid points too - no money because of no work. It's also causing dehydration, heartburn (because I have acid, but nothing to use it on but my stomach lining), and a headache that will not go away. I was vomiting on Friday, was thinking I was ok to go back to work today, and started vomiting again. I am not happy and now have to head to the doctor's tomorrow to find out why I'm so sick. This flu is kicking my butt and I have to get back to work no matter what tomorrow. I can't afford another day off.
Of course, it did not help today that we had a snowstorm. It's not really snowing right now, but the clouds don't look as though they've finished dropping white crap on us. The best friend and her mom have decided to order pizza and pop (Sprite for me, no pizza though) and realized that mom's wallet is in the car, parked across the street. So I, being the sick one of course, am the one who ends up volunteering to retrieve the wallet. Then, I realize as I bring it back up to the house, that unless there is a shoveled trail, the pizza delivery person will simply laugh and leave without giving us our food and drinks. So I grab the shovel and scoop a trail.
My lungs are still burning from the exertion in the freezing cold air that ended half an hour ago. Go figure. :(
Well, there won't be any more posts for PayPerPost here, as Izea has decided to remove all blogs that are not self-hosted on unique domain names from their systems. They are claiming poor quality blogs on free services like typepad, vox, blogger, livejournal, etc. I realize that this blog's quality is severely lacking, but frankly, I've seen some absolutely horrible blogs that are on paid hosting with domain names. I look at them and honestly think to myself that someone is actually paying $10 a year for a domain name and however much a month for hosting for that crap. Unbelieveable.
In any case, I'm being asked my opinion on what pizzas to order even though I can't eat them for fear of making my stomach even more unhappy. I guess they figure on having leftovers. *rolls eyes*
Well, at least according to Blip.fm I am. :) A friend of mine kept sending twitter tweets with blip.fm URLs at the end of them and I decided to check them out last night. It's a pretty cool concept if you ask me. You're basically the DJ of your own online radio station/playlist. You create your playlist and others can listen to it. They can give you props for certain songs if they like, and you can give people props for songs that you like that they've added to their lists as well.
The site actually tracks props given, listeners, your favorite DJs on Blip, and more. You can even embed your Blip.fm on your blog or website. it's really great and I can't wait to play around with it some more.
If you're interested you can find me at: http://blip.fm/ladyamaranth
When I start going through websites and actually comparing various diet aids and pills. One of the things I found most interesting is that in all the reviews I've read about the various items, a great many of them, Fenterdren included, are rumored to be pulled from the shelves soon, making it near to impossible to obtain them. My question is, is it really so hard to see that these things can be dangerous? I mean, honestly, the sites I was viewing did have ratings and scores for various categories, including safety, so it's not like the people who use those sites aren't aware of the risks involved when they purchase these pills. But honestly, in my own opinion, I cannot stress enough the importance of letting your doctor be involved in your diet, especially if you are using diet pills. We almost lost a friend of mine to diet pills, I'd hate to see someone else lose their life or a loved one's life over diet pills because they weren't willing to keep their doctor in the loop and be more careful.
