When I went shopping for my current laptop, I admit that I did not actually do a lot of looking around. I went to one place, found one that was in my price range and had decent specs and purchased it. I did however have a few things I wanted. While I think netbooks are cool, I decided against one, as they're small. Some companies and stores actually call them "mini" laptops or "minis." The regular laptops are small enough without having to have an even smaller one! LOL
So I got the laptop I've got now. I think it works well for me, but a friend of mine is now looking at the netbooks and planning purchasing one, which of course, makes me want to check them out again. However, I'll probably do my shopping online and see what I can dig up, as I'll actually need to save up to get another computer. But I'm trying to decide if I want or need another computer. I have 2 desktops and the laptop as it is. :)
I was looking through some computer components online earlier, just for giggles and I saw some things I haven't seen since I worked for Gateway back in 1997. I'm talking about things like ZIP drives, JAZZ drives, and my favorite tape drives. I didn't realize they did those anymore. I always hated the way we had to install those things. LOL Everything had to go in a particular order in the computer and it was always such a pain to remember what order they went in. Everything had to be installed in a certain order, although someone admitted they would work even if not installed in that particular order. :) But they insisted the components be installed in this specific order. Now, most of the external storage or back up I see is external hard drives, like the portable one I won in a drawing about a year ago. LOL Oh well, it's interesting to see how times change with computers.
I'm telling you, all I ever hear when people find out that my laptop (which is half paid off) has 1 GB of memory and runs Vista, is that I need to get a memory upgrade. Actually, to be honest, I don't. My laptop runs perfectly fine on the 1GB of memory I have. I run FireFox, Paint Shop Pro Photo X2, FileZilla, Notepad ++, and iTunes or Songbird all at the same time and I have no problems with the computer being slow, or it saying that the memory is low. Yet I have people telling me constantly that I need at least 2 GB of memory to run Vista properly. And that's why Vista's minimum memory requirement is 512? LOL Sorry I don't need an upgrade, but I know a few people who do. ;)
Now that I've started training for tech support, I've been thinking about getting a laptop. Just for the heck of it. What I've been looking at so far are some really cool Mac Laptops. We learned about the Mac the other day in class and believe me when I say, if you're a tech support professional, the Mac is MUCH easier to troubleshoot if it's not working. So I'd really like to get a Mac.
A friend of mine was saying that she really doesn't like Apple Laptops at all. She'd rather have a good Windows system. I don't know about that. I mean, really, would you rather have to go through 8 troubleshooting steps with tech support or 3? I'd prefer 3 myself. Honestly. I really hate sitting on the phone with tech support when I have to call them about my internet. I'd much rather deal with 3 easy steps and boom, you're fixed. :)
Another thing I'd prefer about a Mac Book or Mac Book Pro is that I rarely ever hear about a Mac crashing. I hear it all the time about Windows and I really don't want to have to deal with that. It would make it so much easier to not have to worry about losing all my info, website files, etc. Besides, I have a iPod and that's an Apple product. Might as well get an Apple computer to go with it, what say? :)
