Bring on the summer, a time when it is so much easier to just get out there and get moving! Taking walks is so much easier in the summer. Grab a bottle of water, put on some shorts, a tank or tshirt, a good pair of socks, a good pair of walking shoes, and grab your iPod/MP3 player and head out the door. Don't think about it, don't consider it, just go. Yes, that is just one of the reasons I love summer. I don't have to have fitness equipment during the summer, but it's great to have it during the winter. ;)
I plan on starting a walking regimen, most likely on Monday. It will be around the building at work Monday-Friday, and then around the neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday. I figure I'll start out by moving, then I will start working on cutting back on what I eat. My boss told me that I don't have to give up what I love eating, I just have to eat less of it. She was huge at one time, and said what she did was cut everything she ate in half and either threw away the other half or shared it with someone else and started walking. Let me tell you, we had a "walk Alorica" thing in March and my boss got 2nd place for most laps around the building. When it comes up next year, I want to participate, so I need to get training for it now.
I'll just bring my iPod to work with me, put my ear buds in and walk for 2-3 songs. I'll track how many laps I've made and see what it brings. Hopefully a thinner, healthier me.
Ok, so I've been looking for a way to work out that would be easy on my knees. Being that water walking would be good, but not going to work as I don't have a bathing suit I can fit into, that's out. So I thought of possibly trying out something else. I've done the fitness bands before and although they're all right, it's hard to find ones without latex, which I'm allergic to. Then I saw these Kettlebell workouts and decided to see what they're like. Pretty interesting. They're weights, but not traditional weights. You don't have to worry about latex allergies with them, and they have various sizes and weights. I might just have to try those out. ;) Couldn't hurt could it?
I mean, the pilates won't work well right now because some of the positions I have to be in for them require me to have better knees than I do. (Plus, I no longer have my PS2 or my DVD player - long story - so I can't watch the DVD now.) Walking is good exercise but pounding the pavement with my knees isn't a very good idea either. Like I said, water walking doesn't work for me either, so I have to try something. ;)
I swear, I just got up and I'm already tired. My back has been hurting me for a couple of days, my knee is killing me (has been for a couple of weeks now) and my ankle isn't doing too peachy either. None of this is motivating me to do anything like exercise. Of course, I know there is no miracle diet pill that is going to actually just melt the weight off me without me doing anything else.
At least now there are sites that actually give the general public information about the various diet aides out there and will even list the top 10 pills in the diet pill industry. So if I were to consider taking one, I can get a good handle on my options and make a decision. However, I'm not looking to do that. I just hope my back, knee, and ankle stop being pigheaded so I can actually exercise for more than 3 minutes at a time!
If I hear one more person tell me that I need to get more exercise, I'm gonna explode. And it won't be pretty. I mean seriously. I'm fat. I know this. I am in need of a good diet and a lot of exercise. I realize this. It's not going to help me at all if you sit there and tell me that you know of someone who is trying to get rid of an old treadmill, and that it's pretty cheap. *Insert eye rolling here.* I don't want a treadmill in my apartment, and frankly, I don't have room for a treadmill. And can you imagine what my animals would think of it? My dog would probably pee on it and my cat would sleep on it. So, um, yeah. No thanks. I'll get a gym membership if I think I need a treadmill that badly thanks. :)
I'm honestly wondering if maybe putting in some exercise equipment in one of the non-used areas of Stream wouldn't be a good idea. Think of it this way. People who spend a lot of time on their butts in front of computers aren't gonna get the exercise they should. It's just common sense. But if the workplace had somewhere that had some stuff like treadmills and a few weights in it, maybe we'd be more inclined to try for better fitness. After all, if you honestly think about it, sure, we can walk a mile in the building by doing so many laps around the upstairs. But truthfully, when you walk that, people look at you like you've lost your ever-loving marbles. :)
I miss the little employee fitness room at Mercy. I wish I still worked there at times, because then I'd have that little fitness room back. Stream has a deal with Curves, but right now, I can't afford to pay attention, much less Curves, even if I do get a discount. Besides, Curves is more of a class based thing, and I want to have a gym where I can just go in and do what I want, like walking the treadmills. That was my favorite form of exercise when I worked at Mercy, walking the treadmills. It was fun, it was easy, I could use my iPod or I could turn on the TV and watch TV while I walked. So yeah, I miss doing that. They have a "track" set up on the upper floor at Stream, but you know what? It's not the same. It really isn't the same. *sigh*
The other day I was wandering about in "Wally World" and for the life of me, I could not figure out who would buy the exercise equipment they sell there. I'm telling you, anyone who would buy the stuff from there isn't looking to get the good stuff. I say this because frankly, if you're getting something good, you'd be getting it from someone who knows about it. Not someone who sits there and tells you that the "yoga bands" you're looking at are mats for the floor, not the rubber stretchy fitness bands you're looking for. I was told that at two different "Wally World's" before finally buying them anyways to find that they were, in fact, the fitness bands I was looking for. Go figure. I'm telling you, some people need brains. :)
In any case, do you have a favorite way to work out? Mine is to do toning exercises with my fitness bands, a few pilates exercises, and then do some walking in place to a DVD I have.
